As part of the city’s efforts to showcase Bankerohan’s vibrant market life, the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) holds the Dabawenyo Ako: Bankerohan Walking Tour, one of the activities for the 88th Araw ng Dabaw.
Over 190 students attended the first and second days of the tour on March 6 and 7, which were exclusive for tourism-related courses in partnership with the Tourism Educators Association of Davao City (TEADC).
The last day, which is on Saturday is open to everyone. Those who want to join can register thru https://forms.gle/ vEtJJAX4UTb41BcA6.
Dion Refogio, Dasig Turismo Tour guide, said the event was aimed at showcasing the vibrant and bustling atmosphere of one of the oldest markets in the city, all while highlighting the market’s rich history.
He said the activity is also one way to encourage community engagement and support local businesses.
Refogio said the event is a way to teach the students the process vegetable vendors go through when selling their produce, from sorting and cleaning to displaying the vegetables at their stalls, knowing that some of the students are not from Davao City.
Starting at 6:30 a.m., the tour led the participants through the bustling Bankerohan market stalls. In addition to learning about the market’s history, the students got the opportunity to engage with the sellers.
Along with meeting local craftsmen who created handcrafted goods, the attendees were also able to discover the origins of some dishes being sold in the market. The tour guides also offer their perspectives on the market’s cultural relevance.
Refogio said that by highlighting Davao’s domestic goods, he hopes the activity would increase local tourism in the area.
The Bankerohan Walking Tour is just one of the activities for the 88th Araw ng Dabaw celebration, offering a fun, informative, and immersive experience for both locals and tourists eager to explore Davao City. CIO
