Davao Light’s new power rate expected to be released second week of March

The Davao Light and Power Company is set to release new power rate on March 15, 2025, according to an official.

“Klaruhon lang nako kung naa ba ta’y increase or wala karong bulana, dili pa ta kasulti ana kay ang atoang basehan is katong atong consumption or nagamit na kuryente atong last ta naghatag ug bill. So most likely ipagawas nato na on March 15 or 16 ang bag-ong rate. We are hoping na dili siya musaka apan magdepende na siya sa presyo sa merkado kung pila ilang baligya sa atoang kuryente,” Fermin Edillon, head of the Reputation Enhancement Department of Davao Light, said on Wednesday.

Last month, Davao Light’s overall residential electricity rate dropped by P0.5867 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) bringing the rate down to P8.4027/kWh last January. The rate applied to the billing period of February 11 to March 11, 2025.

“On February nibaba atong power rate compared atong January. Kung i-compare nato ang February ug January this year, mas ubos ta tung February naa ta sa P8.40 ug naa ta sa pinakaubos na rate karon kung dili man sa Mindanao pati na sa Pilipinas. I guess everybody nag-enjoy sa katong rate na atong nakuha atong month of February,” Edillon said.

According to the statement of Davao Light released last month, the adjustment was primarily due to a decrease in the generation charge brought about by lower market prices from the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Mindanao where Davao Light sources a part of its power requirement.

Davao Light emphasized that contributing to the decrease in power rate last month was the one-time refund which complied with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) directive under Resolution No. 18 Series of 2024 requiring private distribution utilities to refund customers the approved, collected, and unused fees intended for technical experts’ engagement in the periodical regulatory rate reset ERC conducts.

Even with the decreased power rate, Davao Light continues to encourage customers to practice energy efficiency to avoid high electricity bills.
