
Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. bared that the 2024 Good Financial Housekeeping Award given to Davao City validates the city’s efforts to manage the city’s resources wisely.
The city government of Davao is among the local government units (LGUs) that passed the Good Financial Housekeeping award by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for 2024.
The assessment evaluated the city’s adherence to accounting and auditing standards, as well as the rules and regulations governing local government units.
“This CY 2024 Good Financial Housekeeping Award could not have come at a more opportune time for the city of Davao, for this recognition validates the city’s efforts to manage resources wisely, use public funds properly and judiciously, and ensure accomplishment of goals,” Quitain told Edge Davao.
Quitain added that the city’s adherence to auditing and accounting standards and transparency in all transactions demonstrates the city’s continual commitment to good governance and accountable leadership.
“May this award bring Dabawenyos even closer towards the common goal of ensuring that life is truly here in our beloved city,” he said.
Meanwhile, Davao City was recently recognized as having the largest share in Mindanao’s 2023 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) among the 28 provinces and six Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) with at least P532.54 billion based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) Provincial Product Accounts report.
This comprises 14.8 percent of Mindanao’s 2023 GDP amounting to P3.60 trillion.
The city was followed by Cagayan de Oro City and Bukidnon at P276.86 billion and P258.31 billion, respectively. Davao City’s per capita GDP also increased in 2023 to P271,958 from its 2022 record of P258,811.
In terms of GDP growth, Davao City also ranked second with 7.5 percent growth.
