FPRRD fine with staying at the ICC detention center while not yet mayor

Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday visited her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, at the International Criminal Court (ICC) detention center at The Hague, Netherlands and shared that the former president said he will stay at the facility while he is not yet mayor of Davao City.

The former president is running for mayor against Karlo Alexie Nograles in Davao City for the upcoming 2025 May polls.

“Sabi niya wala naman daw siyang ginagawa because he’s at the moment retired and wala pang eleksyon at hindi pa siya mayor so he might just stay inside,” the vice president told the media.

The vice president also emphasized that the former president does not regret anything he did when was the President of the Republic of the Philippines.

“He said that he doesn’t regret anything that he did sa pagtatrabaho niya para sa bayan at nakita naman ng bayan ang resulta ng kanyang serbisyo para sa bayan,” the vice president said.

Meanwhile, the lead legal counsel of the former president expressed optimism that FPRRD will be acquitted.

British-Israeli international lawyer Nicholas Kaufman believed their defense against the crimes against humanity case in the ICC is strong.

“I’m very confident of the strongest defense possible and I’m very confident that he will be acquitted, indeed, even at the earliest stage possible,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman also said that among their legal strategies are challenging the legality of the former president’s arrest.
