PDAO confirms no reported fake PWD IDs in Davao City

Lawyer Redendo Martinez, division head of the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in Davao City, confirmed on Thursday that there are no reported incidents that a fake Persons With Disability (PWD) identification card was used in Davao City.

“In Davao City, there are no fake PWD IDs,” Martinez said during ISpeak media forum.

He added that as of February 2025, there are already 30,000 PWD ID holders in Davao City.

Martinez clarified that if ever someone will be caught using a fake PWD ID in Davao City, most likely it was issued or made somewhere else.

Martinez’s pronouncement was an assurance to Dabawenyo business owners after Benjie Lizada, president of the Restaurant Owners Association of Davao City, Inc. (RestoDC)
raised the concern over the proliferation of fake PWD identification cards in December last year.

Lizada said such modus is rampant in Manila.

Also in December 2024, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian bared that the government was losing billions in tax revenues due to the proliferation and unscrupulous use of fake PWD identification cards.

Gatchalian cited data gathered by the Senate Committee on Ways and Means wherein the government lost P88.2 billion in 2023 alone.
