Transport cooperatives expressed on Monday their support for the Public Transport Modernization Program (PTMP).

Launched in 2017, the PTMP sought to modernize transport fleets, enhance safety regulations, and maximize route efficiency to completely transform the nation’s public transportation system.

In a statement, the transport service entities of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental fully support the program and its goals to improve the country’s public transport system.

“Now that we have felt its benefits not only as an organization but also as active members directly serving the commuters of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental, we would like to express that our decision to join this program and consolidate as transport cooperatives and corporation was made willingly and voluntarily,” the groups said in a statement.

Jean Bangay of Kapatagan Transport Cooperative said in addition to the improvements in public transportation, they have also witnessed the positive financial impact of this initiative.

“The program has provided significant financial incentives to our drivers, auxiliary workers, and members ensuring a more stable and sustainable livelihood,” Bangay said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao.

Bangay said with better income opportunities, safer working conditions, and access to government support, the livelihoods of all involved have been uplifted, bringing stability to their families and communities.

She underscored that the transport service entities of Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental committed to consolidate and join the program.

Meanwhile, Gilbert Porio of the North Davao Transport Coop Federation (NDTCF) said the federation has understood and seen first-hand the positive outcome of the program.

“We proudly affirm that our decision to join and consolidate as transport cooperatives was made voluntarily and with a strong sense of commitment,” he said.

Porio emphasized that beyond the advancements in public transportation, the federation has seen that it has significantly improved the livelihoods of drivers, auxiliary workers, and coop members by providing better income prospects, and access to essential government support.

“These improvements have not only contributed to the economic well-being of individuals but have also brought stability to their families and communities,” he said.

Porio stressed that as transport cooperatives, they remain dedicated to advancing the government’s goal of a modern, well-structured, safe, and accessible public transport system that benefits the entire riding public.
