Vice President Sara Duterte on Saturday said that the Senate hearing done on Thursday will not change anything as former President Rodrigo Duterte is already in the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

The vice president made an appearance on Thursday via Zoom during the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte led by Presidential sister Senator Imee Marcos.

The vice president explained that during the hearing it was discussed whether the arrest of the former president was legal or illegal.

“Meron silang discussion kung tama ba ang ginawa, illegal ba ang ginawa. Illegal yung ginawa. Sabi ko nga, it was an extraordinary rendition, whether it was correct or not correct, hindi na maibabalik yan kasi nandoon na siya sa loob,” the vice president said.

The vice president stressed that the people who arrested her father can’t bring him back to the Philippines and that the only way the latter can be released is to undergo the legal process of the ICC.

The vice president reiterated during the hearing that what happened to the former president aims to demolish political opponents.

She added that the people should move forward as the former president cannot be brought back to the Philippines.
