CREBA reveals shortage of memorial parks in Davao City

Chamber of Real Estate Builders Association (CREBA) Davao Chapter Chairman Diosdado Mahipus Sr. on Friday bared that there is a shortage of memorial parks in Davao City based on the organization’s data.

“In real estate karon naa pud bag-ong avenue na really are catering kining mga bodies (corpses). Every year we have 10,000 mortality rate, 10,000 ka tao ang nangamatay diri sa Davao and our data shows we have very low number of memorial parks,” Mahipus said during Business Matters media forum at Hukad, Ayala Malls Abreeza.

Mahipus said that currently there are four applicants for the development of memorial parks in Davao City. These are planned to be established in Brgy. Langub, Ma-a; Toril; Mintal and in still unknown location.

“If we go to the public cemeteries puno na ni, gipangkutkot na. Gipangkalot na ang mga patay kay gipangbutang na lang ilang mga bukog didto sa mass grave kay matud pa wala na ni nagbayad ug arkila sa syudad. Luoy pud kaayo ang gipangbalhin but because of the shortage or scarcity of decent burial grounds,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mahipus confirmed that the real estate industry in the city is not slowing down.

He said what may be slowing down is the condominium sector as the market is now scared to invest in high-rise condominiums due to some factors like the frequent occurrence of earthquakes.

He added that the government is no longer encouraging the development of high-rise condominiums, instead, it is pushing for mid-rise condominiums.

“Maybe it’s because when you talk about high-rise condominiums, mahal pero kung mid-rise medyo affordable and the cost of putting up condominium is also high,” Mahipus said.
