Davao Light targets December 2025 completion for R. Magsaysay Underground Cabling Project

The Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) is aiming to complete the Underground Cabling Project (UCP) along Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City, by December 2025.

Davao Light President and Chief Operating Officer Engr. Enriczar Tia announced the timeline during the ceremonial switch-on of the first of two segments of the Ramon Magsaysay UCP on Monday.

The underground cabling project spans approximately 1.4 kilometers and consists of two phases. Phase 1 extends from the Davao City Central Post Office to the regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) on Suazo Street, while Phase 2 covers the stretch from the BFAR 11 office to the Unity Archway.

The segment switched on Monday marks the completion of half of the project—700 meters from the Davao City Central Post Office to Suazo Street.

According to Tia, civil works for Phase 2 are ongoing, and the project is expected to be finished by December.

“Ongoing na daan ang atoang second phase and hopefully mahuman namo by December of this year. Tama-tama pud December, Christmas so nindot atong lights diri,” Tia said.

Under City Ordinance No. 0152-17, Series of 2017, telecommunication companies, Davao Light, and other stakeholders are required to convert overhead lines into an underground system.

The project aims to enhance urban aesthetics while ensuring safer and more organized city roads.

The Underground Cabling Project was initially mandated by Ordinance No. 0177-14, Series of 2014, which focused on underground cabling in the vicinity of City Hall and the Sangguniang Panlungsod building.
