The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Acting Director, Col. Hansel Marantan, assured on Monday that the Davao City police force remains apolitical, particularly in providing security for local and national candidates ahead of the midterm elections next month.
Marantan emphasized that the number of personnel deployed for the campaign sorties of opposing candidates in Davao City is evenly distributed.
Although he did not disclose specific figures, Marantan guaranteed that no political favoritism influences the deployment of police officers.
“I cannot tell you the exact figure now, but it is enough to secure them [candidates]. It’s obvious that neither party is complaining. Though there are questions like, ‘Why are there more here, and fewer there?’—that doesn’t make any difference to all. Just because you don’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Neither party is complaining, and that’s all I can say,” Marantan explained.
Meanwhile, DCPO spokesperson Capt. Hazel Tuazon assured that the DCPO is committed to ensuring the peaceful conduct of the national and local elections on May 12, 2025.
Tuazon stated that the DCPO will maintain tight security across the city during the elections and until the process is complete.
She highlighted that 100 police officers from the DCPO are ready to be deployed within their respective areas of responsibility (AOR). Additional reinforcements from the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) will also provide support for surveillance operations.
Tuazon further noted that, based on assessments and monitoring conducted by the DCPO, there are currently no identified areas of concern or recorded election-related incidents in Davao City.
