Department of Tourism 11 (DOT 11) Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan leads the opening of Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino (Filipino Food Month) that showcases unique gastronomy of Davao Region at the Activity Center of Ayala Malls Abreeza on Friday.
The activity, which will run until April 27, is participated by the Department of Agriculture 11 (DA 11), Davao City LGU and the five provinces of Davao Region namely Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro, Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental.
Tan said the activity emphasizes the vibrant celebration of the flavors, stories, and traditions that define the people in Davao Region.
Carrying the theme “Sarap ng Pagkaing Pilipino: Yaman ng ating Kasaysayan, Kultura, at Pagkatao,” the event showcases the unique gastronomy of our region, crafted with local, often long-forgotten ingredients that are being rediscovered and brought back to life.
Each province showcases products and services unique to their place from fruits, vegetables, processed products to handicrafts.
The activity was highlighted with a boodle fight participated by the guests and the mall goers.
Tan said that beyond the flavors, the event will also shine a light on the journey of the food: from the hands of the farmers who plant and harvest with care, to the creativity of the chefs who transform these products into culinary masterpieces.
“We honor our farmers – the stewards of our land, preserving heirloom crops and rediscovering forgotten produce. We pay homage to our cooks and chefs – the storytellers, weaving history and innovation into every dish. Together, they create the soul of Davao’s cuisine, and we celebrate their shared passion and dedication,” Tan said.
She added that knowing where the food comes from deepens the people’s appreciation for every bite, and honors the unbreakable bond between those who grow it and those who prepare it.
“So, come and join us experience the flavors that make us proudly Filipino. Let us enjoy the festivities, and celebrate the wealth of our culture together,” Tan said.
