The Office of Civil Defense 11 (OCD 11) reported on Tuesday that several barangays in Bansalan, Davao del Sur, experienced flooding and landslides on April 12, 2025, due to heavy rains brought by easterlies.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) defines easterlies as winds originating from the east, often bringing warm, moist air that can lead to heavy rainfall.
According to OCD 11’s initial report, the affected barangays in Bansalan include Managa, Anonang, Altavista, Poblacion Dos, Poblacion Uno, New Clarin, and Mabuhay.
While a total of 48 families and four individuals were affected, no evacuations were necessary.
In terms of infrastructure, OCD 11 noted that three road sections and one bridge in Davao del Sur sustained damage.
To respond to the situation, OCD 11 conducted monitoring of the affected areas and disseminated advisories through email, social media, Viber, and Messenger.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Bansalan activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) team to assess conditions in Bugac and Tinago in Poblacion Dos, as well as Sitio Sto. Niño, New Clarin.
The MDRRMO also deployed heavy equipment for debris clearing in Balagonon, Managa, and Sitio Sto. Niño, New Clarin.
Additionally, the office coordinated with affected barangays for RDANA and debris-clearing efforts and sought assistance from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) for further resources at the EOC.
OCD 11 also reported that the MDRRMO distributed food packs to affected households in Purok Tinago to provide immediate relief.
