Massive rallies for Butchoy Taojo in Davao de Oro

The political climate in Davao de Oro is heating up as overwhelming support continues to pour in for candidate Butchoy Taojo, who has become the center of large-scale rallies attended by thousands of residents throughout the province—a clear sign of strong grassroots support, in stark contrast to the small gatherings held by his opponents.

In a series of successive rallies held in Nabunturan, Mabini, Mawab, Maco, Pantukan, and Laak, Taojo was warmly welcomed by crowds carrying placards, chanting his name, and expressing their hopes for a “new kind of leadership.”

The venues were packed, the streets were filled with people, and many supporters came from far-flung barangays in caravans, all to show their support for the candidate they believe truly represents them.

Taojo is known for his straightforward approach and a platform focused on good governance, transparent public service, and rural development—key issues that resonate deeply with the people of Davao de Oro.

“No one was paid, no one was forced to come, but the place was full. This is what genuine support from the people looks like,” said a resident from Maco during the rally.

In contrast, the opposing group continues to hold small pocket rallies, typically limited to closed-door meetings attended mostly by political allies and a handful of barangay officials. Their lack of public engagement and smaller turnout has been noted by locals and political observers alike.

According to political analysts, the difference in crowd size reflects a shift in the province’s political landscape.

“The people are clearly speaking through their presence,” said one commentator. “And in Davao de Oro, it’s clear who they trust.”

Taojo remains focused on a campaign that is issue-based and people-centered, steering away from personal attacks.

“This isn’t a competition about numbers, but about the people’s hearts. And clearly, their hearts are with us,” Taojo said in his speech, which was met with applause and strong support from a crowd that filled the entire town plaza.

As the May 2025 elections approach, the people anticipate a hotly contested yet historic vote.

And judging by the size and energy of his rallies, Butchoy Taojo is emerging as the face of a movement in Davao de Oro’s second district—and for many, he could be the one to bring new direction to the province.
