The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 11 (Davao Region) clarified Thursday that its programs and services are not connected to or involved in any election activities.
The clarification follows Memorandum 24-09014issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in January, which exempts 28 DSWD programs and projects from the election spending ban under Section 261 (v)(2) of the Omnibus Election Code (OEC), allowing the continued release of public funds for these programs during the election period.
“These programs are designed for the welfare and development of the community,” the agency said in a statement.
DSWD-11 assured the public that its implementation remains aligned with the mandate of the Comelec, ensuring impartiality and service to all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations.
“We thank you for your continued support and cooperation in safeguarding the integrity of government programs and services,” the agency added, urging the public to help ensure that resources are used for their intended purpose, serving poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged populations without political influence.
Last month, the DSWD welcomed the Comelec’s decision to exempt key agency programs from the election spending ban, emphasizing that it ensures uninterrupted aid to poor and marginalized Filipinos.
In a memorandum issued by the Comelec on March 18, the poll body approved the DSWD’s request to exempt certain social welfare programs from Section 261 (v)(2) of the OEC. This marks the second time the Comelec has granted the DSWD’s request for such exemptions. (PNA)
