Pulong questions motive behind P20 per kilo rice

Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte questioned the real motive behind the P20 per kilo of rice implemented in Visayas.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. recently announced that rice will be sold at P20 per kilo with the program starting in Visayas.

The P20 per kilo of rice was a campaign promise of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in 2022.

“Ang pangutana, hangtod kanus-a? Unsa na, legalized vote buying?” Pulong told supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte holding a vigil outside the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

When asked for his comment on why only it is being implemented in Visayas, Pulong replied ” pildihunon seguro sila sa Visayas.”

Pulong also said that the P20 per kilo of rice may be infested with “bukbok” when someone commented whether the rise is edible.

“Kana lang basin gibukbok pud nang P20,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte said on Thursday that Marcos’ implementation of the P20 per kilo of rice in Visayas is now “too little, too late.”

“Nagsasabi lang ako ng totoo sa P20 per kilo na bigas. Dahil that is a campaign promise and its a little too late siya at magtataka ka kung meron tayong bente pesos pero kilo na bigas bakit sa Visayas lang ito i-implement? Eh nakita natin mahina yung mga senador ng administrasyon there in Visayas,” the vice president said.

The vice president said that Marcos’ campaign pledge is insufficient and overdue to fulfill at this time.

She added that it’s currently being tested in the Visayas where Marcos’ candidates have low rankings.
