Tebow Cure Children’s Hospital is now eyeing to reach the most unreached children in Mindanao for charity surgeries, according to an official.
Peter L. Cowles, executive director of Tebow Cure Children’s Hospital of the Philippines, said on Wednesday that they are looking at penetrating the areas in Mindanao, including the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), that have no access to Tebow’s world-class services.
Tebow Cure is the first and only hospital in the country to provide charitable surgeries for children with treatable disabilities.
“The direction of the hospital now is we want to reach the most unreached children. Mindanao is our primary. We want to penetrate the areas that do have not access to these services. We will move in the Bangsamoro after the election period,” Cowles said during Wednesdays Habi at Kape media forum.
Tebow Cure offers orthopedic surgeries for children and has pediatric orthopedic surgeons. It also has the best-cleft lip palate surgeons in the Philippines.
“We are very proud of the work excellence that we do with our surgeries,” Cowles said.
The hospital houses 30 beds, three operating rooms, and an outpatient clinic. It also provides diagnostic exams, pre and post-operation evaluations, medications, lodging for patients and caregivers, assistive devices like wheelchairs and crutches, physical therapies, biblical counseling, and more.
Cowles said they are targeting those areas that are lacking services that Tebow is offering and targeting specifically patients who cannot pay.
“We are trying to break every barrier for those families who don’t have access to world-class life-changing surgeries,” he said.
From doing 600 surgeries per year five years ago, Cowles said Tebow is now doing 2,400 surgeries per year.
“We are a specialty children’s surgery hospital in the Philippines and we serve about 2,400 children every year with charity surgeries that means all the children that come in are given the services from start to finish wherein everything is at zero billing including arranging for housing and transportation,” he said.
He said this year, they will be delighted to serve about 2,500 with its fiscal year starting on July 1, 2025.
Cowles said Tebow Cure established relationships with local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao with 150 of them so far which allows them to identify children and transport them to Tebow Cure hospital.
He shared that four weeks ago they were in Zamboanga Sibugay for four days and spent time there screening in 16 different municipalities.
He said so far there are four busloads of children needing surgeries wherein 100 children are being housed for their surgery appointments.
Cowles said 40 of these children already completed their surgeries.
