Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday said her task in The Hague is done and she is ready to return to the Philippines.
Duterte told journalists that she has already delivered the document that was needed from her, and she will go back to the Philippines once her travel arrangements are done.
“Yes, everything’s organized with the lawyers… and there’s already a system for the family with regard to the visiting here in the detention units… so yes… and that the last document that was needed of me, I delivered it this morning to the person inside who asked for it. So yes, my task is done. Well-organized,” she said.
“Yes, yes, I am excited to go home…I’ll just book the travel arrangement,” she added.
The vice president has been in the Hague since March 12, or a day after her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, was arrested at the request of the International Criminal Court as part of its probe into his “war on drugs” that defined his presidency.
The vice president earlier said she would go home as soon as the travel arrangements for other members of their family are finished, as they will take turns in staying close to their father while he is in detention.
The ICC warrant for Duterte’s arrest said that as Davao City mayor and later Philippine president, the 80-year-old Duterte allegedly created, funded, and armed death squads that carried out murders of purported drug users and dealers.
He was brought to The Hague in the Netherlands on the same day he was arrested.
Duterte on March 14 appeared via video link before ICC judges. He is set to attend a September 25 hearing to confirm the charges against him.
