On Saturday, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte issued Executive Order (EO) No. 6, Series of 2025, directing all local candidates in Davao City to establish teams dedicated to retrieving, reusing, and recycling election paraphernalia on May 13, 14, and 15, 2025.
The mayor emphasized that the city government urges both local and national candidates to take responsibility for the proper disposal and management of their campaign materials after election day, as these items will no longer serve their purpose.
Highlighting the importance of waste reduction and environmental stewardship, he underscored the need for effective disposal practices to prevent excessive waste and promote sustainable waste management in the city.
“All local candidates must form cleanup teams and actively participate in the three-day initiative within their respective districts,” the mayor stated.
Under Section 3 of the EO, all collected election paraphernalia must not be discarded in garbage bins or collection points.
“Teams should ensure that all materials are recycled or delivered to recycling centers,” he stressed.
The national and local elections are scheduled to take place on May 12, 2025.
Earlier this year, in February, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) encouraged political parties and candidates to adopt recyclable and environmentally friendly materials as part of its push for green campaigning.
Through its en banc Resolution No. 11111, Comelec mandated that election propaganda, including posters and standees, must be made of cloth, paper, cardboard, or other recyclable materials, prohibiting the use of non-sustainable alternatives.
In March, Comelec announced its plan to donate all illegal campaign materials removed during its “Oplan Baklas” operations for recycling.
