Marcos not pushing Sara’s impeachment trial in Senate

Malacañang clarified on Wednesday that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is not pushing for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte in the Senate.

Palace Press Secretary Undersecretary Claire Castro refuted allegations that the administration is seeking Duterte’s ousting.

Castro also mentioned that there is no directive from the President regarding Duterte’s impeachment.

“Wala pong anumang balita patungkol sa pag-pursue ng Pangulo sa impeachment o sa impeachment trial ni VP Sara so iyan po ay ating tinututulan at pinasisinungalingan po,” Castro said in a press briefing.

The Senate trial is expected to begin on July 30, 2025, after the vice president was impeached in the House of Representatives on February 5, 2025.

Meanwhile, the Senate has unveiled one of the Oxford crimson robes to be worn by senators when they sit as judges for the impeachment trial of the vice president.

In a press briefing, Senate President Francis “Chiz” G. Escudero said on Thursday, that the Senate, once convened as an impeachment court, will discuss the Rules of Procedure when the session resumes in June.

According to the Senate, the Oxford crimson robes symbolize the transformation of the senators from being advocates of the people to becoming impartial magistrates in pursuit of truth and justice.
