Davao City and Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province in the People’s Republic of China, are bolstering sister city partnership following the latter’s officials recent visit in the city.

A delegation from the Fuzhou Municipal People’s Government led by Du Weiguang, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, paid a courtesy call to Davao City Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain, Jr. on Friday.

According to the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), the meeting, held at the Councilors’ Lounge at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Building, aims to bolster the strong ties between Davao City and Fuzhou as they move towards an official sister city relationship.

The Fuzhou delegation included Dai Zongjun, a member of the Leading Party Members Group, Fuzhou Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and Planning, and Han Zhumei, Secretary General of the Fuzhou People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

DCIPC Investor Assistance and Servicing Unit (IASU) Head Christian Cambaya also briefed the delegation on investment opportunities in Davao City.

Quitain told Edge Davao they discussed potential areas of investment during the meeting.

“We talked about the potential areas of investments in Davao, the upcoming sister city agreement, and future collaborations,” Quitain said.

DCIPC stated that the official visit also highlighted ongoing efforts to deepen mutual understanding and promote goodwill between the two cities.

Fuzhou, known as “The City of the Banyan Tree,” has pillar industries including aquaculture, textiles, machinery, ICT, construction materials, and tourism.

The Davao City International Relations Board (DCIRB) officially approved Fuzhou as Davao’s next sister city from the People’s Republic of China on September 26, 2023.

The sister city agreement aims to foster friendly relations and facilitate exchanges across various fields.
