Police seized PHP5.5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes and arrested one suspect during an early Sunday operation in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, officials reported Monday.
Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete, PRO-11 director, said officers initially investigating illegal firearms instead discovered 110 master cases (5,500 reams) of contraband cigarettes stacked near a residential road.
The suspect, alias “Lester,” was apprehended without incident.
“The operation demonstrates our commitment to combat smuggling,” Rosete said, praising the Regional Special Operations Group and local police.
The cigarettes, bearing various foreign brands, were allegedly smuggled into the country illegally. (PNA)
