Department of Health-Davao (DOH-Davao) Assistant Regional Director Dr. David A. Mendoza has urged all establishments in Davao City to observe minimum public health standards to prevent the transmission of Mpox (monkeypox).
“We are reaching out to all establishments where the nature of work involves direct skin-to-skin contact between individuals. Salons, barbershops, massage parlors, and gyms should observe minimum public health standards,” Mendoza stated.
He also urged businesses to provide accessible handwashing facilities, ensure alcohol or sanitizer is available, and disinfect high-touch surfaces.
“Assess workers as well as customers before conducting business,” he advised.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sofia Corazon Zafra, Medical Coordinator for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases at the City Health Office (CHO), stressed the need to expand information dissemination on Mpox in Davao City following an increase in confirmed cases.
“What we are asking for, especially when it comes to getting the right information regarding transmission and prevention, is very important,” she said.
The city government of Davao, through CHO, has already established response measures and protocols against Mpox. Authorities continue to remind Dabawenyos to practice minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of the disease, including proper two-minute handwashing, sanitation with alcohol, disinfecting surfaces, and avoiding close or intimate contact—especially with individuals suspected of having the virus.
