Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go vowed to help in the completion of the Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM) building of the University of the Philippines-Mindanao (UP-Mindanao) campus in Mintal, Davao City.
The senator on Wednesday graced the inauguration and turnover of the UP-Mindanao’s new School of Management building at UP-Mindanao campus.
In his speech, Go paid tribute to the institution’s role in uplifting local communities and developing future leaders.
“Napakahalaga po ng papel ng UP-Mindanao — hindi lang sa paghubog ng isipan ng kabataan, kundi sa pagtutulak ng kaunlaran sa buong Mindanao,” he said.
Go also vowed to help the premier state university, including supporting the completion of the CARIM Building.
“Ang isa pang building dito ay para sa research din — ni-request po sa akin ni UP President Jimenez at agad ko pong tinulungan,” he added.
Go emphasized that education is a foundation of personal and national transformation.
“Ako po’y naniniwala na ang edukasyon po’y napakahalaga. Daladala po natin ‘yan hanggang sa kamatayan,” he said.
Go, vice chairperson of the Senate Committee on Finance and a member of the Senate Committee on Higher Education, co-authored several bills including Senate Bill No. 2974, or the Expanded Philippine Science High School (PSHS) System Act, which if enacted into law would allow up to two PSHS campuses per region (excluding the National Capital Region), ensure equitable distribution across provinces, and will place the system under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for unified governance and quality standards.
He also co-authored and co-sponsored Republic Act No. 12077, or the Student Loan Payment Moratorium During Disasters and Emergencies Act, which provides temporary financial relief to students with outstanding loans during times of calamity.
