OVP receives summons from Senate impeachment court

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) confirmed on Wednesday that it has received receipt of the summons issued by the Senate Impeachment Court.

“The Office of the Vice President confirms receipt of the summons issued by the Senate Impeachment Court at around 11:05 AM today,” the OVP said in an advisory released to the media.

The senator-judges remanded on Tuesday the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives (HOR) in a vote of 18-5-0.

The 18 senators who voted in favor to remand the articles of impeachment included Alan Peter Cayetano, Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, Bong Revilla, Imee Marcos, JV Ejercito, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Loren Legarda, Robinhood Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Francis Tolentino, Joel Villanueva, Pia Cayetano, Lito Lapid, Cynthia Villar, Mark Villar, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Raffy Tulfo, and Francis Escudero.

Those who voted against the motion were Senators Aquilino Pimentel III, Risa Hontiveros, Nancy Binay, Grace Poe, and Sherwin Gatchalian.

No senators abstained from the vote.

The Senate impeachment court listed the seven articles of impeachment against Duterte in the summons.

The summons stated that the vice president is required to submit her response to the allegations within a mandatory timeframe of 10 days of receiving the summons.

The vice president is currently on a “personal trip” in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with her family.

According to the OVP, the vice president will be attending the Independence Day celebration and an OVP program consultation with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) on June 12.

Meanwhile, the HOR held mass on Wednesday and have the copy of the articles of impeachment blessed.
