Elizabeth Zimmerman, ex-wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte, bared on Wednesday that she will follow FPRRD’s request to be cremated when he passes away.
“Hindi man ako ang magdecide. If it is my decision, I would follow whatever his decision is,” Zimmerman told the media and supporters outside the detention facility of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
Zimmernan said cremation was one of the things she and the former president discussed during her visit.
“So, if he wants to be cremated, that’s what also one of the discussions we had, if he wants to be cremated, then so be it,” she said.
It can be recalled that Vice President Sara Duterte has been expressing to her father that she opposes cremation.
The vice president revealed that it was the former president’s final wish to be cremated during her visit to the detention facility.
“Sabi ko, i-discuss na lang natin sa susunod kasi hindi ako pro-cremation tapos siya pro-cremation. Sabi ko sa kanya anong mangyayari nito kunwari hindi namin sundin yung habilin mo na i-cremate ka at ilibing ka namin doon sa tabi ng tatay mo? Babalik ka ba? Sabi niya hindi naman pero pag-isipan ko kung mumultohin kita o hindi,” she said.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman shared that she and the former president “talked about mundane things” during her visit.
“Mundane things about Davao, how is Baste, Paolo, so that’s it,” she said.
She also relayed FPRRD’s message to the Filipinos: “If it is my destiny to be here, so be it. Don’t apologize. Don’t regret it. ”
Zimmerman also urged the Filipinos to do something about the current situation in the country.
“What is happening in the Philippines? I hope the Filipinos will do something about it. It is you, the masses, the citizens, who can do something. It is not us. That is why I am so happy you are here. Really, we are grateful,” she said.
