The Office of the Vice President extended help to families severely affected by Tropical Storm Crising and Habagat.

The OVP Disaster Operations Center in Quezon City on Wednesday prepared thousands of relief boxes loaded them to a truck.

OVP Spokesperson Atty. Ruth Castelo said one food box can tide affected families over for several days.

“Yung ating food boxes po ang laman niyan ay bigas at mga ilang pirasong canned goods an puwede na nilang pangtawid sa isang pamilya na nagbibilang ng apat, so maybe one day, two days or hanggang tatlong araw kung kaya nila pang i-stretch ‘yung kanilang relief,” she stated in a chance interview.

The OVP said around 2,900 relief boxes were distributed to affected residents in Western Visayas and Northern Luzon. An additional 3,000 boxes were scheduled for delivery in Pangasinan beginning Thursday, the office added.

“In fact, meron na rin kaming partner na kausap darating ‘yan tonight para tumulong sa ’min para makapagdala tayo ng mas maraming food boxes sa mga probinsyang nangangangailangan ng tulong,” OVP Disaster Operations Center Chief Eymard Eje said.

Food trucks serving hot meals were deployed for first responders and other frontliners.

The OVP added that it allocated assistance for around 5,900 families in various affected areas nationwide.
