Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte told his son, First District Councilor and acting Vice Mayor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, to work very well.

“Magtrabaho siya nang maayos. Gaya nga ng bilin ng papa ko (former President Rodrigo Duterte) “You make your own history.” Kung hindi siya umayos, hindi siya magtrabaho nang maayos, hindi na siya iboboto ng mga taga Davao sa darating na eleksyon,” Rep. Duterte said in an interview with Alvin and Tourism in The Hague, Netherlands on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), through Secretary Jonvic Remulla, formally directed Davao City Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to assume the role of acting mayor following the temporary legal incapacity of former President Rodrigo Duterte (FPRRD), who was proclaimed mayor-elect in absentia.

Under the same succession framework, the DILG also designated 1st-ranked Sangguniang Panlungsod member Councilor Rigo as acting vice mayor.

Rigo presided over the first regular session of the 21st City Council at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

“I humbly accept this responsibility, knowing it comes with the trust and expectations of the people who have placed their confidence in me. As we gather here, I am reminded of the rich history and vibrant spirit that define Davao. We are a people of strength, resilience, and unity, and it is these qualities that have propelled us forward through challenges and successes alike. Let us stand united in our commitment to progress, transparency, and the betterment of all Dabawenyos,” Rigo said in his inaugural speech.

Rep. Duterte expressed elation that his sons are following in their footsteps to serve Dabawenyos.

“Para sa akin, siyempre bilang tatay nila, masaya ako na may sumusunod sa yapak namin na magse-serbisyo sa mga Dabawenyo. Ayusin nila dahil future din naman nila ang pinag-uusapan natin,” he said.

Aside from Rigo, Rep. Duterte’s eldest son, Omar Vincent, was also elected to represent the Second District of Davao City.
