DSWD readies P189-M aid as LPA looms over Caraga

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) has prepared its resources for the possible impacts of a low pressure area (LPA) that continues to bring inclement weather to most parts of the region.

As of 8 a.m. on Monday, the LPA was monitored 150 km. east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

“The Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) of DSWD-13 is on standby and presented updates on the availability of the agency’s prepositioned food and non-food items in strategic locations across the region,” the agency said in a statement.

The DRMD also joined a virtual Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment scenario-building meeting convened by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of the Office of Civil Defense in the Caraga Region on Sunday.

The agency has already prepositioned family food packs (FFPs) and non-food items (NFIs) in different warehouses in the provinces, which are ready for immediate distribution during emergencies and disasters.

A total of 54,031 FFPs and 21,674 NFIs are currently prepositioned in eight warehouses in Agusan del Norte; 13,520 FFPs and 1,029 NFIs in seven warehouses in Agusan del Sur; 17,512 FFPs and 2,538 NFIs in seven warehouses in Dinagat Islands; 44,005 FFPs and 730 NFIs in 19 warehouses in Surigao del Norte; and 37,659 FFPs and 2,211 NFIs in 16 warehouses in Surigao del Sur.

As of Monday, the DSWD-13 reported a total of standby funds and stockpiles amounting to PHP189.6 million. (PNA)
