Three companies — Filinvest, Gokongwei Group, and Changi Airport of Singapore — expressed interest by filing their proposals to operate through Private Public Partnership (PPP) the Davao International Airport (DIA), according to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
“Ang magandang balita meron ng nagsubmit ng Private Public Partnership led by Filinvest Group. Nagsubmit na sila ng unsolicited proposal to develop, operate, and maintain the Davao airport. I think it’s about time, kasi, among our major international gateways, Davao airport na lang ang hindi pa pinapatakbo ng private sector like NAIA, Clark, and Mactan,” Dizon said.
Dizon is confident that the proposals will be approved this year.
He also assured that the expansion works for DIA continue.
In July this year, Dizon led the inspection of DIA’s passenger terminal building (PTB) expansion project.
The P650 million development project will expand the PTB’s floor area from 17,500 square meters to 25,910 square meters.
The expansion is expected to be completed in December 2026.
According to DoTr, through the expansion, the PTB will be able to cater to and seat 2,200 or additional 700 passengers, compared to the previous seating capacity of 1,500.
There will be additional spaces for concessionaires.
The project is projected to generate an estimated 4,000 jobs for the city.
