Printing of ballots for BARMM elections to start Sept. 8

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday said it will start the printing of the official ballots for the Oct. 13 Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) on Sept. 8

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said they will complete in seven days the printing of over 2.3 million ballots at the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City. The verification process is included in the one-week target.

“Based on what the Project Management Office (PMO) has said, this (printing) could happen by Sept. 8 so that we can better study and see the entirety of the law,” he said in an interview.

“It won’t be difficult for the Comelec to complete because it’s only 2.3 to 2.4 million ballots.”

The commission reset the printing of BPE ballots, which was supposed to start Thursday, after it received information that the bill distributing the seven parliamentary seats may affect the ballot faces and printing of ballots.

The Bangsamoro Parliament will reconfigure the parliamentary districts and will distribute the seven parliamentary district seats, originally to be under Sulu, following a Supreme Court ruling excluding the province from the region.

The parliamentary districts will be distributed to Lanao del Sur, 9; Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur, 5 each; Basilan and Tawi-Tawi, 4 each; Cotabato City, 3; Special Geographic Area, 2. (PNA)
