Councilor J. Melchor B. Quitain Jr., chair of the Committee on City-owned Real Properties of the City Council of Davao, announced on Tuesday that the Task Force on the Inventory of Real Properties of the City Government of Davao (REPTAF) has completed a comprehensive listing of all city-owned properties following successive committee hearings.
Quitain said during the Pulong Pulong sa Dabawenyos, with the inventory now finalized, the Committee on City-Owned Real Properties has asked the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) to provide the current status of properties identified for possible government use, including schools, infirmaries, public markets, and police outposts.
“By the successful listing of city-owned real properties, the Committee asked the City Planning and Development Office to provide the status of the said properties, which are optimum for government utilization such as schools, infirmary, public markets, police outposts, etc,” he said.
Quitain said the CPDO, in coordination with the City Legal Office, is set to present its report on October 15.
Quitain added that the committee headed by lawyer Francis Fernandez has also met with representatives of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the City Legal Office (CLO), and other concerned agencies to tackle the proposed renaming of barangays in the Poblacion District.
“To ensure compliance with the Local Government Code and other legal requirements, the committee has requested formal legal opinions from the DILG and CLO,” he said.
Meanwhile, on his proposal of renaming the poblacion’s district barangays, Quitain said during the committee hearing with barangays, various barangay officials asked for some time for them to meet and consult with their constituents as they come up with proposed barangay names.
Quitain proposed to rename the barangays in the Población District to align with the naming system of other districts and to avoid confusion among Dabawenyos regarding their locations.
He admitted that this would not be easy, but said it should be pursued, though.
