The Davao Light and Power Co., in collaboration with the Aboitiz Foundation, turned over on Monday two rubber boats and safety gear to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Southeastern Mindanao to help enhance its coastal security and marine conservation capability, particularly in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City.
The turnover ceremony, held at Turtle Sanctuary, Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya, Davao City, was led by Davao Light President and COO Enriczar T. Tia, while accepting the donated equipment from the PCG was Commodore Philipps Y. Soria, Commander of Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM).
Tia said the turnover ceremony underscored the collective commitment to strengthening maritime safety and preserving the region’s natural resources.
He also said that the program centers on protecting coastlines and monitoring marine sanctuaries, with emphasis on Punta Dumalag in Matina Aplaya, a recognized marine reserve in Davao City.
Tia emphasized that the partnership underscores Davao Light’s commitment not only to reliable power service but also to environmental stewardship and community safety.
He also highlighted Davao Light’s commitment to go beyond providing electricity by also contributing to sustainable development and environmental protection.
The Aboitiz Cleanergy Park is also situated in an eight-hectare property in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya.
It forms part of the Marine Protected Area designated by the city government of Davao and is home to a rich and unique ecosystem, featuring mangroves, coastal forests, a turtle nesting and spawning site, shoals, coral reefs, seagrass beds, and a fish sanctuary.
The Aboitiz Cleanergy Park acts as a refuge and secure nesting site for the critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), as well as over 100 species of native and migratory birds and marine life.
