The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Davao extended P4 million worth of relief goods to the provincial government of Davao Oriental on Wednesday to support communities affected by the recent “doublet” earthquakes.

Deputy Consul General Wang Mingqing personally turned over the donation to Governor Nelson Dayanghirang in a brief ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol Gym in Mati City, which also serves as the province’s incident command post.

In addition, the Association of Davao Fil-Chinese Communities contributed P700,000 in supplementary relief assistance for quake survivors.

“We hope the relief goods will help the people in Davao Oriental get through the disaster,” Wang said.

Wang conveyed emotional support and compassion for the victims of the earthquake.

She emphasized that China stands with the people of Davao Oriental as they face hardship and recovery.

“At this difficult time, our hearts are with the people in Davao Oriental. We are confident that under the wise leadership of Governor Dayanghirang, the people of Davao Oriental will rebuild their homes soon,” she said.

As of October 14, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that 176,906 families across Davao Oriental were affected by the twin tremors that struck the province on October 10, resulting in nine deaths and damage to 11,381 homes.

Meanwhile, Governor Nelson Dayanghirang expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and the Fil-Chinese community for their timely support, saying the assistance would greatly help in relief operations and rebuilding efforts for affected families.
