Davao Bus Project holds stakeholder consultations to ensure inclusive design

The Davao Public Transport Modernization Project, also known as the Davao Bus Project, conducted a two-day stakeholders’ consultation to refine the design of bus stops and shelters.

The consultation was held to ensure the project meets the diverse needs of commuters across the city.

The first session, held on September 29, gathered representatives from persons with disability (PWD) groups, women’s organizations, and the LGBTQIA+ community, and on the following day, September 30, consultations included environmental advocates, cycling groups, and frequent travelers carrying large luggage.

The participants visited proposed bus stop sites and viewed shelter mock-ups before joining a workshop where their feedback was gathered to guide final design adjustments.

Mia Cagumay, Federation Secretary of the Persons with Disabilities in Davao City, expressed appreciation for the inclusive process.

“Kami nalipay, in behalf sa akoang mga kauban, nga equal representation ta karon tanan… madungog ug dunggon ang amoang mga pag-ampo nga accessibility sa Davao City,” she said.

She also noted that accessibility concerns are being prioritized.

With a total project cost of P76 billion, the project is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the national government, and the city government of Davao.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) affirmed that sectoral consultations will continue to ensure the Davao Bus Project remains inclusive and fully responsive to the needs of every Dabawenyo.

The project is an integrated bus network across a 672-kilometer road system, with five depots, three terminals, a driving school, 1,074 bus stops, 380 electric buses, and 720 Euro-V compliant buses operating with an intelligent transport system and an automated fare collection.
