Authorities in Davao City are on heightened alert following a series of bomb threats targeting several schools over two consecutive days.
On Thursday morning, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) received two separate reports of bomb threats — one at Talomo National High School and another at Bangoy National High School (Senior High) in Sasa, Davao City.
The threats were reported shortly after 7 a.m., prompting the immediate evacuation of students and teachers as police and bomb disposal teams conducted clearing operations.
According to the DCPO, inspections are ongoing to ensure the safety of both school premises.
The latest incidents follow two similar reports on Wednesday, October 22, at Mintal Comprehensive National Senior High School in Mintal, Tugbok District and at Davao Wisdom Academy, Inc. along F. Torres Street.
The incidents were declared negative after thorough inspections conducted by the City Explosive and Canine Unit (CECU).
The DCPO also declared the reports hoaxes after thorough inspections confirmed no explosives were found.
Authorities are now tracing the source of the bomb threats and warned that those responsible could face criminal charges for spreading false information and causing public panic.
The police also urged residents to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified information, and immediately report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the DCPO has denounced the series of bomb threats received by four schools.
In an official statement, DCPO acting City Director Col. Mannan C. Muarip said that while no explosives were found, the incidents are being treated with utmost seriousness due to the fear, panic, and disruption they caused among students, parents, and school personnel.
“These false threats cause unnecessary fear and panic among students, parents, and the community, disrupt school operations, and waste valuable government resources,” Muarip said.
He has ordered the creation of a special investigation team to track down the individuals responsible for the hoaxes, emphasizing that they will face criminal charges once identified.
Muarip also reminded the public that spreading false information, particularly bomb threats, is a punishable offense under Philippine law.
“The Davao City Police Office will not tolerate any actions that disturb the peace and safety of our schools and communities,” he said.
He urged Dabawenyos to remain calm but vigilant, and to continue cooperating with authorities to maintain Davao City’s reputation as one of the safest urban centers in the country.
