Davao Light power rates ease in October after months of increases

After consecutive increases over the past several months, Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) announced a P1.4875 per kilowatt hour (kWh) reduction in its residential power rate this October, bringing long-awaited relief to consumers.

The new rate now stands at P9.1532/kWh, down from September’s P10.6407/kWh. The adjustment, which applies to bills received from October 11 to November 10, 2025, was mainly driven by lower power supply costs from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where Davao Light sources part of its energy requirements.

Before the October rollback, Davao Light’s rates had been on an upward trend for several months. In September 2025, rates rose by P0.6213/kWh due to higher generation and transmission charges. This followed an August increase of around P0.48/kWh, attributed to tight power supply conditions and higher spot market prices. Even earlier, in July, consumers saw a P0.32/kWh increase, reflecting rising fuel costs and adjustments in pass-through charges.

Davao Light said the October decrease serves as a correction following those cumulative price hikes. Improved supply conditions, lower WESM prices, and reduced generation costs from some of its contracted power suppliers contributed to the significant drop.

Despite the decrease, the utility company reminded customers that electricity rates remain vulnerable to fluctuations in market prices, fuel costs, and supply availability. Davao Light also reiterated its call for consumers to continue practicing energy conservation to help manage monthly bills and reduce overall power demand in the region.
