Lanao Sur, PA mark 8th anniv. of liberation of Marawi City

The provincial government and the Philippine Army commemorated the eighth year of Marawi City’s liberation from the 2017 siege by Daesh-inspired militants under the Maute and Abu Sayyaf terror groups.

In a ceremony on Friday, Lanao del Sur Gov. Mamintal Adiong Jr. said the liberation from the May 23 to October 23 siege is a journey toward normalcy and the rebuilding of Marawi City.

“It is that time of the year once again when our hopes are high for the full return of normalcy and the continued rebuilding of our communities for the benefit of our displaced families who, to this day, strive to create better homes despite the challenges,” he said.

At the headquarters of the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade, wreaths were offered to the marker dedicated to the fallen heroes during the five-month siege.

The Marawi Compensation Board also continued to assess recipients and released compensation to those qualified residents whose properties were destroyed during the siege. (PNA)
