Man arrested over rape of his own minor daughter

Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation–Southeastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-SEMRO) arrested a man for alleged repeated rape his own minor daughter during a law enforcement operation conducted in Purok 76-A, Bucana, Davao City, around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to NBI-SEMRO Investigation Agent VI Vicente Essex Minguez, the arrest was made by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued against the suspect for qualified rape of a minor under Republic Act 8353 or The Anti-Rape Law of 1997, as amended by RA 11648.

He added that the offense is non-bailable due to its serious nature.

In an interview with the media in a press briefing on Wednesday, the suspect strongly denied the allegations, saying he was surprised by the case, as previous medical examinations of his daughter supposedly showed no signs of abuse.

Minguez said that the arrest stemmed from a valid warrant issued by the court following a thorough investigation.

“This is a grave offense covered under Republic Act 11648, which strengthens the protection of minors. The suspect is now under NBI custody while the legal process continues,” Minguez stated.

The suspect remains detained at the NBI-SEMRO facility as authorities prepare the necessary legal procedures for the case to move forward.
