Marcos visits DavOr earthquake victims

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday visited earthquake-hit areas in Davao Oriental to personally oversee relief operations and extend assistance to affected residents following the twin tremors that struck the province on October 10.

The President inspected areas near the epicenter in the municipality of Manay, where the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital (DOPH)–Manay District was completely damaged.

A field hospital has since been set up in Barangay Central to continue medical services for residents.

He also visited Manay National High School in Barangay San Ignacio, which suffered major structural damage, including the collapse of several classrooms and the faculty room.

The school has more than 1,300 students and 75 staff members.

In Tarragona, the President assessed the Regional Evacuation Center, which was declared unsafe, and proceeded to the Tarragona Municipal Grounds Evacuation Center, where around 255 displaced families are currently staying in makeshift tents.

He later convened a situation briefing with Cabinet members, local officials, and disaster response teams to coordinate relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Marcos earlier directed government agencies to sustain round-the-clock rescue, relief, and recovery operations in Davao Oriental.
