PAGASA: Localized thunderstorms to bring light rains in Davao Region

The Davao Region will continue to experience occasional cloudy skies with light rains and thunderstorms, particularly in the evening, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration-Davao (PAGASA-Davao).

Lolita Vinalay, chief meteorologist of DOST-PAGASA Davao, said that as of October 6, an active tropical cyclone that recently exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and is now located northeast of Luzon continues to influence weather patterns, bringing strong winds over parts of the country.

PAGASA reported Monday afternoon that the tropical cyclone located outside PAR has intensified into Typhoon Halong, while the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring rain showers over parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

The typhoon is carrying maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts reaching up to 150 km/h. It is moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 10 km/h.

“Ang inter-tropical convergence zone sa southern MIndanao particularly sa Zamboanga Peninsula ug sa BARMM. Samtang ang localized thunderstorm ang naka apekto sa Davao Region (The inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) remains affecting southern Mindanao, particularly the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), while localized thunderstorms are affecting the Davao Region),” Vinalay said over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).

She added that Davao City and neighboring provinces may experience occasional cloudy skies with light rain and isolated thunderstorms at night.

PAGASA also warned residents to stay alert for possible flooding and landslides, especially in low-lying and mountainous areas, as severe thunderstorms may bring heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
