PRO 11 debunks report claiming PNP chief urged officers to defy Marcos

The Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) dismissed on Wednesday as fake news a social media post alleging that acting Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. encouraged police and military officers to disobey President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

In an official statement read by PRO 11 spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey, the PNP called the circulating post “fabricated and malicious,” saying it was intended to sow confusion and discredit the organization’s leadership.

“The PNP categorically denies the false claims that Lt. Gen. Nartatez urged uniformed personnel to defy the President. These statements are entirely baseless,” the statement read.

The PNP reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the Constitution, emphasizing that the organization remains fully committed to obeying lawful orders from the Commander-in-Chief and other duly constituted authorities.

“Our loyalty is to the Filipino people and to the rule of law,” it said.

The statement stressed that the police force continues to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism in all its operations.

Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the source of the disinformation, with the PNP vowing to pursue legal action against individuals or groups behind the false post.

The PNP also urged the public to verify information through its official channels and to refrain from sharing unverified content that could undermine public trust in law enforcement institutions.

“The PNP continues to serve the Filipino people with honor, dedication, and accountability while standing firm against attempts to misinform and destabilize the credibility of our organization,” the statement concluded. By Maya M. Padillo
