VP Sara sees Singapore as blueprint for sustainable, well-planned PH cities

Vice President Sara Duterte praised Singapore’s efficient transport system and meticulously planned urban landscape, saying the Philippines can draw valuable lessons from the city-state’s approach to sustainable development.

Duterte, who visited Singapore on October 25 to meet with members of the Filipino community, said she was particularly impressed by how the country maximizes its limited land area while maintaining a balance between progress and environmental preservation.

“Meron akong nakita na sa tingin ko ay puwedeng makopya natin para sa Pilipinas — iyong paggamit nila ng kanilang espasyo,” she said, noting that Singapore’s strategic land use could serve as an inspiration for urban planning in Philippine cities.

The Vice President also lauded the discipline and professionalism of Singapore’s transport service providers, sharing her experience using ride-hailing services during her visit.

“Hindi ako nakapag-public transportation dahil nagmamadali lagi, ang gamit namin ay Grab. Pero napakaganda at napakaayos ng sistema ng Grab nila dito, at ‘yung mga drivers nila ay meron talagang disiplina at respeto sa mga pasahero,” Duterte said.

She added that Singapore’s model shows how strong governance, citizen discipline, and efficient public systems can work together to create a livable, orderly, and sustainable urban environment.

“Dapat tularan natin ang urban planning ng Singapore,” she concluded, emphasizing the importance of adopting best practices to improve the infrastructure, transport systems, and overall quality of life in Philippine cities.
