Davao City breaks ground for new CDRRMO motorpool facility

The city government of Davao is strengthening its disaster preparedness and response capabilities with the groundbreaking of a new two-storey motorpool facility in Barangay Ma-a on Tuesday.

The project, spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in coordination with the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) and other partner agencies, forms part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance resilience and readiness in times of disaster.

According to CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran, the facility will serve as a central hub for operational vehicles, heavy equipment, and lifeline resources essential for disaster response and recovery operations.

He said it will also house the office’s Search and Rescue Teams, ensuring faster mobilization during emergencies.

“This facility is more than just infrastructure—it represents our readiness, collaboration, and commitment to ensuring that when disaster strikes, Davao City will always stand ready to respond, recover, and rise stronger,” Baloran said.

Baloran added that the project marks the second phase of the city government’s three-part development initiative aimed at establishing a comprehensive CDRRMO Emergency Operation Complex.

Earlier this year, the first phase—the Malagos Warehouse—broke ground in Barangay Malagos to serve as a logistics and storage hub for emergency assets and relief goods.

Once completed, the Emergency Operation Complex will rise in the same location in Maa and will serve as Davao City’s central command and communications hub during disasters.

In his message delivered by City Councilor Alberto Ungab, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte reaffirmed the city’s commitment to building a safer and more resilient Davao through sustained investment in disaster risk reduction.

“Over the years, we have strengthened our collective efforts to expand the scope of disaster resiliency, promote effective programs and strategies, and enhance multisectoral coordination in disaster responsiveness,” Duterte said.

Duterte added that the upcoming Emergency Operation Center will be a welcome addition to the city’s growing network of disaster management hubs reinforcing Davao’s reputation as one of the country’s most disaster-prepared cities.
