The month of November which happens to be Water Consciousness Month will be highlighted by Davao City Water District’s (DCWD) thrust for promoting responsible water use while celebrating the city’s surplus water supply that sets it apart from other urban centers.
Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, DCWD spokesperson, in an interview said the city currently enjoys more than 700,000 cubic meters of water available daily, exceeding the city’s current demand by nearly 50%.
“Our available supply exceeds the daily water demand of our city by almost 50%. So with that kind of supply and demand scenario makaingon gyud ta na diri sa atoang syudad its very conducive for development kay ang atoang tubig we can assure that kung unsa man tung umaabutay na developments, residential, commercial or industrial matugunan nato ang panginahanglan,” she said.
She attributed the city’s water security to the efforts of watershed community partners, who have been instrumental in protecting and rehabilitating Davao City’s watersheds.
“Because of them, residents enjoy uninterrupted water service. Their work behind the scenes is key to this abundance,” she added.
Duhaylungsod also noted that Davao City is the only city in the Philippines tapping both ground and surface water at significant volumes, a strategy that has contributed to its robust supply.
She cited data from 2024, when the DCWD began distributing bulk water supply, confirms that the city consistently maintains a healthy surplus.
Duhaylungsod said that this year’s Water Consciousness Month will highlight the watershed communities, recognizing their vital role in sustaining Davao’s water resources.
