The number of organic farmers in Davao City continues to grow, reflecting a strong shift toward sustainable and eco-friendly agriculture, according to the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgRO).
Senior Agriculturist Jeana Ablen said more Dabawenyo farmers are now adopting organic practices, many of whom are recognized for their commitment to producing healthy and chemical-free crops.
“Once na ikaw wala nagagamit og mga synthetic na mga inputs, gina consider nga organic sila by default ang ilahang practice so ubay ubay nagud ta. Naa napud tay organic practitioners nga gi recognize dria sa Davao City,” Ablen said via Madayaw Davao.
Meanwhile, the growth of organic farming takes center stage this November as CAgRO leads the city’s celebration of Organic Agriculture Month, in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 1030, issued in 2015.
Ablen said the observance highlights the importance of organic agriculture in promoting health, sustainability, and environmental conservation.
The celebration will officially open on November 6, 2025, at Rizal Park Pavilion, featuring a trade fair where organic farmers can showcase and sell their products — from high-value crops, root vegetables, and fruits to native coffee, tablea, and herbal plants.
“Atong hatagan og kahigayonan ang atong mga organic practitioner nga ma tinda og ma ila ang ilang produkto og kini sab nga buluhaton mao ni ang pamaagi na ma aware ang public kung unsa ang organic agriculture practice,” Ablen said.
She added that throughout the month, CAgRO and the City Veterinarian’s Office will also conduct information drives on organic practices, anti-rabies, biosecurity, and responsible animal production.
Ablen emphasized that the steady rise of organic farmers in Davao City is not only an agricultural milestone but also a step toward a healthier and more sustainable community.
“Daghan kaayo og mga health issue, sa physical nga health issue tungod kay nagakaon og mga dili limpyo or dili healthy nga mga pagkaon. At the same time environmental friendly ang organic agriculture, sustainable siya og maka baton ta og hamugaway nga kinaiyahan, hamugaway nga pang lawas,” she stressed.
