Progressive groups staged a protest on Wednesday afternoon at Freedom Park in Davao City to mark the 77th International Human Rights Day.

The rally, led by militant Karapatan–Southern Mindanao Region and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) Southern Mindanao, drew attention to what they described as ongoing attacks on civil liberties and democratic rights.

Carrying the theme “Down with the Corrupt and Fascist US–Marcos–Duterte Regime,” the protesters denounced alleged human rights violations and government policies they said have further marginalized workers, farmers, and urban poor communities.

The groups called for an end to all forms of corruption and human rights violations under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. They also demanded accountability and sanctions against government officials allegedly involved in corrupt practices.

Activists marched with streamers and placards as they renewed calls for justice, protection of human rights defenders, and the upholding of social and economic rights.

The protest was among several activities held nationwide on December 10 to commemorate International Human Rights Day.
