Cotabato speeds up Central Mindanao Airport development

The provincial government of Cotabato is pushing forward with the implementation and supervision of major developments at the Central Mindanao Airport (CMA) project in Barangay Tawan-Tawan, M’lang town, an infrastructure initiative expected to generate employment and boost trade and agriculture across the province.

According to information from the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator (PPDC), the number of substantially completed and ongoing projects at the CMA increased by the end of 2025.

PPDC emphasized that these developments are the result of the sustained efforts of Governor Emmylou T. Mendoza, in coordination with national government agencies, particularly the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Among the projects that are either completed or currently underway within the CMA complex are the asphalt overlay of the runway, grading of the runway strip, and construction of the turning pad, implemented by the DOTr, which are already substantially completed.

Several support facilities being handled by DPWH 12 are also nearing completion and these include the administrative building with a reported 90.51 percent accomplishment; the power house at 90.73 percent; the water supply facility at 92.36 percent; and the fire station, which has reached 72.50 percent completion.

Meanwhile, construction of the control tower is ongoing, with progress recorded at 10.50 percent.

In addition, a bridge leading to the boundary of the CMA is currently under construction by the DPWH 3rd District Engineering Office, with an estimated 15 percent completion rate.

Once operational, the CMA is expected to improve connectivity, strengthen local commerce, and provide vital support to the province’s agricultural sector, reinforcing Cotabato’s role as a growing economic hub in the region.
