VP Sara defers comment on impeachment raps vs Marcos

Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday said she would withhold comment for now on the impeachment complaint filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., opting to wait for developments in the coming days before issuing a reaction.

“Sa ngayon, wala pa. Antayin natin ang mga susunod na mga araw kung meron akong reaction,” Duterte told the media and OFWs in The Hague, Netherlands.

The impeachment complaint was filed Monday before the House of Representatives by lawyer Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay.

It cites graft and corruption, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust as grounds for seeking Marcos’ removal from office.

De Jesus also alleged that Marcos violated the Constitution and betrayed public trust by surrendering former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and claimed that the President is unfit to serve due to an alleged drug addiction.

Meanwhile, the vice president also addressed speculation that an impeachment case could be filed against her once the one-year ban on impeachment proceedings is lifted next month.

Duterte said such a move would come as no surprise, noting that her critics have openly discussed their plans.

“As expected, dahil sila din naman na ang nagsasabi lagi na magfa-file sila ng impeachment complaint,” she said.

Duterte further claimed that any impeachment effort against her would likely mirror previous attempts, which she described as politically motivated and driven by financial interests.

“As expected as well, magiging katulad lang din ’yan nung nakaraan na ginagawang fundraising ng mga members of the House of Representatives yung pagpirma nila sa impeachment. It’s all about the money diyan,” she said.
