At least eight people have been reported dead following a series of landslides in the Davao Region, as continuous heavy rains brought by the shear line battered parts of Mindanao.
Based on reports from various local government units (LGUs), four fatalities were recorded in Mati City, three in Monkayo, and one in Barangay Napnapan, Pantukan, Davao de Oro.
In Mati City, Mayor Joel Mayo Almario confirmed that four members of the Anting family were buried alive in Upper Salazar, Barangay Central.
The victims were identified as spouses Habib and Khairen Anting and their two daughters.
Meanwhile, three individuals died in a landslide that struck Purok 5, Barangay Rizal in Monkayo at around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Two of the victims were recovered early Friday morning, while the third was retrieved later that same day.
In Pantukan, a 25-year-old miner also lost his life on Friday morning after a landslide hit a mining area in Barangay Napnapan.
Authorities continue search and retrieval operations in affected areas as intermittent rains persist, raising fears of more landslides in vulnerable communities.
Local officials are urging residents in high-risk zones to remain vigilant and follow evacuation advisories.
Classes suspended
Several local government units (LGUs) in the Davao Region have suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools.
Areas with class suspensions were Davao City; Davao del Norte: Tagum City, Panabo City and Island Garden City of Samal; and municipalities of Asuncion, Carmen, New Corella, Kapalong, San Isidro, and Sto. Tomas.
In Davao de Oro: Montevista, Mawab, Maragusan, Nabunturan, Monkayo (class and work suspension), New Bataan, and Pantukan.
In Davao Occidental: municipalites of Malita, Sta. Maria and Saranggani.
In Davao Oriental: city of Mati, municipalities of Caraga, Baganga, San Isidro, Cateel, and Lupon.
