Davao City recorded a notable rise in business permit applications during the month-long Business One-Stop Shop this year, with over 1,200 more filings compared to the same period last year, according to the Business Bureau.
Business Bureau Head Maribel Paguican shared at the I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday that from January 1 to 31, 2026, the bureau processed 45,621 applications-an increase of 1,211 from January 2025.
This translated to an estimated 8% boost in revenue from business taxes and fees.
“Most of our registrations come from retail and services-sari-sari stores, groceries, distributors, and service contractors of all kinds,” Paguican said.
She said that the Business One-Stop Shop simultaneously operated in 10 locations across the city to provide easier access for business owners.
Paguican added that the strategy helped accommodate more clients, including those filing renewals after the January 31 deadline, albeit with penalties, surcharges, and interest.
Last year, the city recorded 44,410 applications during the same period, and a total of 50,961 for the full year.
“We are very positive that we can surpass last year’s total by the end of 2026,” Paguican added.
She also clarified that some businesses applied for retirement permits in 2025 for reasons such as relocating, changing business activities, or transferring residence.
Paguican assured that these retirements are not alarming as many entrepreneurs shifted to more productive ventures rather than leaving the market.
Paguican also noted that delivery riders no longer need to apply for business permits under a city ordinance specific to their sector; instead, they now register for occupational permits.
